Sociologist Cristiano Gianolla takes the example of the war in Ukraine to show us how everything can change depending on the perspective. "We have Ukrainians versus Russians and we have minorities within Ukraine that the narrative identifies as Russians. One group sees the other as someone who doesn't deserve to live. Who doesn't have the dignity of being human. Love and hate depend very much on the context or the narrative that is around the same issue," summarises the expert.

"It's not a rational question. A person who says 'I am not capable of hating anyone' doesn't know how he will react if the narrative changes. There are Ukrainians who had no special hatred for Russians, but the war brought them losses of parents, of brothers, of children, which made them change their feelings.", stresses Cristiano Gianolla.
