This event includes the premiere of the UNPOP documentary entitled:
Populism Performing Democracy: Collective emotions, Political narratives, and Social Identities
HUMANIZA
HUMANIZA is an initiative that celebrates the International Human Rights Day (10 December) and the International Migration Day (18 December). It is organised by the Inter-Thematic Group on Migration (ITM) and the UNPOP Project of the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra, in collaboration with the Cineclube de Faro and the Caminhos do Cinema Português - Associação de Artes Cinematográficas de Coimbra. It celebrates cinema as a social and socialising art that empathetically represents and connects different cultures and identities, in a call to ensure human dignity in movement. The event marks the launch of the documentary Populism performing democracy: collective emotions, political narratives, and social identities by the UNPOP Project. do Projeto UNPOP.
HUMANIZA will take place simultaneously in Coimbra and Faro, with screenings of films centred on migrants, focusing on their struggles and resilience. HUMANIZA emphasises the historical importance of the human right to migrate and of resisting the imposition of physical borders. The initiative also crosses geographical, institutional, academic, and symbolic boundaries in order to invite critical reflection and collective action. In this context, HUMANIZA aims to deconstruct the dehumanising narratives that so often accompany migration, as well as to amplify messages of courage, solidarity and hope. We will be joined by some of the people involved in the production of the films to discuss the meta right to migrate.
